@Max Cairnduff - Yes. Excellent book. Taylorism was really important for the Soviet state. They actually wanted to become even more efficient than Western industrialized nations. In that sense (and in many more), they were far from the antidote or antithesis to capitalist societies. They actually embraced many of the same goals and methods. To boil it down . . . waaaaay too much: They shed one master but imposed another. Workers lost out regardless. Lose out, for the most part, under either system. Perhaps someday we'll create a system -- a functioning, healthy, progressive system -- where we shed masters, period. :>)

It really is tremendous isn't it? Well written, thought provoking, entertaining, a small masterpiece in its way. I agree with you on the prose too. Nice Taylorism reference by the way.

@Robert Mueller - If you haven't read the book, you really should. It's a masterpiece. The prose is startling and original. Unique in its own way, but off kilter like another great Soviet writer, Andrei Platonov. Hope all is well--
