Billie and Ella came of age under very difficult circumstances. Their music reflects those obstacles in different ways. Billie's way was more obvious in some ways. But both women had tremendous soul. I love the camaraderie on display in those video. The quiet assurance and respect on display. Billie's face, listening to the other musicians, is especially . . . . well, profound to me.
